Ignorance or bliss
Which would you choose?
- Happy and blissfully ignorant
- Philosophically concerned but not always happy
My knee jerk reaction is #1.
On the surface I value being aware, but I often struggle to turn off that part of my brain that can’t stop ruminating and reflecting on a topic.
What would be the cons to ignorance? I’d miss out on Truth and I’d probably do things in inefficiently misinformed ways. But at least I’d be happy…?
However, there is something that comes from mulling something over. It’s Type II fun: an uncomfortable struggle in the moment but deeply rewarding to look back upon.
Is being happy synonymous with peace and contentment? Isn’t contentment related to being at ease with the present circumstances? Would I have to be aware of the present circumstances to be at peace with them?
Perhaps the fact that I’m meditating too much on this answer, points me to my answer: #2,
